What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
Comments are generally not accepted on this website. However when visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
No names are traded or sold to any third party for any reason.
Media
Except for specific purposes of enrollment, visitors are not given an opportunity to upload images to this website. However if you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Contact forms
When visitors use the Contact form on the site we collect the data shown in the form as provided by the visitor, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
No names are traded or sold to any third party for any reason. However the Florida League of the South may choose to retain contact information in a separate and secure offline database maintained by our own staff. The information may then be used exclusively by the Florida League of the South for possible recruiting, solicitations and other marketing purposes, such as invitations to our conferences. When requested, visitors using our Contact forms may be sent an assortment of literature via mail.
Visitors using our Contact form may request that we do not retain their contact information. Please see the section below “What rights you have over your data.”
Donors
When we receive donations on the site we collect the data shown in the form as provided by the donor, and also the donor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
No names are traded or sold to any third party for any reason. However the Florida League of the South may choose to retain donor information in a separate and secure offline database maintained by our own staff. The information may then be used exclusively by the Florida League of the South for possible recruiting, solicitations and other marketing purposes, such as invitations to our conferences.
If you choose to donate to our cause but request that we do not retain your information, please contact us providing the same information which you used to donate, such as name or email address, and we will be glad to oblige. Please see the section below “What rights you have over your data.”
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
If you have an account and are logged in to that website with content embedded here, these website may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content.
Analytics
Who we share your data with
This website currently uses both Google Analytics and Hitslink.com for website traffic monitoring, so that these services have access to visitor IP addresses, device type and browser information. Users who do not wish their traffic to be monitored can opt to turn off tracking in their browser or device settings.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments and contact form submissions may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Otherwise no data is shared with anyone outside of the Florida League of the South.
The only exception is for members of the Florida League of the South, whose basic information must be shared with our national office.
Additional information
How we protect your data
While no online service is 100% secure, we work very hard to protect information about you against unauthorized access, use, alteration, or destruction, and take reasonable measures to do so, such as hosting our website with a secure webhost that monitors our servers for necessary updates as well as potential vulnerabilities and attacks, keeping up-to-date with our plugins, themes, and WordPress, and through installation of an SSL (Secure Socket Layer) certificate.
Credit card and other personal financial information is not stored on this website beyond the period of the time of transaction. Any other information beyond what the visitor himself may access, for example, if he purchases something from us and creates an account here, is not permanently stored on this website, but is deleted as soon as possible.
Visitors who have made purchases or donations are free to log in and view or change their profile information at any time. Visitors are also free to request account deletion, if they no longer desire that we retain their basic profile information.
What data breach procedures we have in place
If your data is ever compromised we are prepared to follow procedures such as those required by the State of Florida, although we are aware that laws in other jurisdictions may vary. We have procedures in place to monitor server and website activity, offline data is stored in a secure manner, and we plan to implement new security procedures as the technologies become available. Currently, 2FA (Two Factor Authentication) is available to our registered visitors so that they may better protect their own data.
What third parties we receive data from
This website uses the Akismet anti-spam service, and reserves the right to use other services which provide such information. IP numbers and email addresses may be forwarded to such services so that we may retrieve information about our visitors in the endeavor to keep our website secure.
What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data
Visitors leaving comments or using our contact forms may have their email addresses submitted to agencies which track spam or monitor the internet for other illicit or illegal activity.
Visitors who actually join the Florida League of the South agree to be vetted according to standing FLS procedures which are beyond the concern and scope of this website.
